Charles Edward Berkley, Sr., son of the late Z. Aaron Berkley and M. “Mary” Berkley, was born August 29, 1953, in Baltimore, Maryland. He departed this life peacefully on January 1, 2026, after a brief illness. 

He received his education in the Baltimore City Public Schools System and attended a trade school. After high school, he was drafted into the US Army.  Before deployment, he met the love of his life, Brenda (Johnson) Berkley. After an honorable discharge, Dad returned and married the love of his life, Brenda, in July 1976. After marrying Brenda, they lived in Florida and Georgia. They went on to have two children, Charmeda and Charles Edward Berkley, Jr., and moved back to Maryland in 1984. Ultimately, they raised their two children in Glen Burnie. Charles retired from the Social Security Administration in his late 60s after 40 years of government service. 

Charles was a family person. He loved his wife dearly. He spent most of his lifetime working and with his family. He traveled with his family. He spent many weekends with his brothers, sisters, and cousins. Before Brenda’s illness and passing in 2016, you would find the two of them taking road trips and leaving from the Port of Baltimore or Miami on a cruise. 

Charles was a kind man, a dreamer and visionary, a great storyteller, but also humble. He loved his children. But his favorite people were his grandchildren. He was an advocate for others. He was a kind and wise soul and made many friends wherever he went. Charles had a sense of humor and was a fan of delicious food (especially Richardson Farms). Charles will be missed, but his legacy will live on through the friends and family he touched.

He leaves to mourn: children, Charmeda (Berkley) McCready and Charles & Sarah Berkley (daughter-in-love), grandchildren, Charles III (CT), Sean Jr. (Lil Man) and Acacia (KK); one brother, Aaron; sisters, Eddie, Nancy, Sheila, Gwen, Debbie (preceded in death by siblings Sam, Pat), a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
