James Graves Jr., the son of James and Essie Graves was born on October 12, 1931 to the late James Graves Sr. and Essie Graves.
James attended Baltimore County public schools and joined the army in which he fought in the Korean War. James also worked and retired from Bethlehem Steel. On December 25, 1952 he was married to Althea Shorts ( also known as Shorty) and to this union five children were born, Hope, William (deceased) Michael (deceased), Elizabeth (deceased) and Jamie.
In 1962 James was baptized in Jesus name at Gospel Tabernacle under the leadership of Bishop George Livent. He also enjoyed driving Bishop Livent to church activities in and out of state. James worked faithfully on the usher’s board tending to church needs for 60 years. He loved singing, his favorite songs were “Open the Flood Gates of Heaven, and What Can Wash Away My Sins”.
When James was younger , he loved playing pool, fishing, family gatherings and helping family and friends when they were in need. He is genuinely loved by many and will be greatly missed.
He leaves to mourn three daughters, Hope V. Hope (Ronald); Jamie Graves and Tammy (Michael), twelve grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, one sister and a host of saints, family and friends.
