John Junior Smithson was born on January 1, 1946, to the late Mary Lillie and John Henry Smithson in Lunenburg County, Virginia. John departed this life on April 26, 2020.
John received his education in the Lunenburg County, Virginia school system. John was baptized as a young child at Zion United Baptist church in Virginia where he accepted the Lord as his Savior. He began to work at Kenneth Leaf Crafts in Kenbridge, VA. John moved to Baltimore, MD in 1967, where he held many jobs until he became a full time employee at Johns Hopkins University until his health began to fail.
John Junior, lovingly known as Poppa-Bone, he was a kind, caring loving person with not many words to say unless he was spoken to. He liked to lift weights while he was in his room watching tv and eating snacks. John shared four daughters with Shirley Ore. He held a special place in his heart for his family.
John preceded in death, Mary and John H. Smithson (parents) his daughter, Ida Smithson; two sisters, Lillian and Marylee; one brother, Richard; his grandson Carlos Smithson, two nephews, Ronnie, and Tony Smithson.
He leaves to mourn: three daughters, Mary; Laverne and Johnny Smithson. Three sisters: Ethel Smithson; Martha Bryant and Rota Stewart. Two brothers; Andrew Smithson and Alphonso Rainey. One brother in law, Lewis Bryant. One sister in law Aisha Smithson. Eleven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, three great- great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
